I am currently looking for the perfect home for my Lyra. She's a gorgeous, big girl who loves people and loves attention; she's house-trained and likes nothing better than to spend time in the house with her people. Lyra is available because she has been diagnosed with autoimmune thyroiditis, which she could pass along to her puppies if she were bred. So, she's been "retired" from breeding and would make someone a devoted pet. Her thyroid issue is kept controlled by daily thyroid meds, just like what people with thyroid problems take.
Also, rescues everywhere are overflowing with deserving Akitas, from puppies to oldsters. Yes, even old dogs; while it seems positively inhumane to me to dump a dog who has given his loyalty and love to his family for many years, the reality is that it happens all too often.
Please consider contacting a rescue near you! There are many wonderful dogs available, dogs who have been vetted, already neutered, and living in foster homes so that training issues, personalities and any quirks are well known to the rescuers involved.
I support MARS - Midwest Akita Rescue. Check the MARS website for available Akitas, young and old, in foster situations throughout Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Iowa and Kentucky. Click here for the MARS website: http://www.akitas.org/
